A list of recommended must-see events in Malta and Gozo
Malta is always rife with events, especially during the summer when the whole island is in full swing. From as early as April, the events calendar is jampacked with anything from cultural events and historical reenactments to concerts and various themed festivals.
Here is a list of our recommended top events in Malta, not including music festivals (look out for our Malta music festivals post coming soon). For more detailed information on each event, click on the title.
1. Village Feasts
Include a village feast to experience village life and all that is Maltese; it is particularly interesting if the village or town in question has competing band clubs or more than one parish.
2. Festa Frawli
Indulge in fresh local strawberries, food, drinks and sweets made from strawberries. Mġarr in Malta is strawberry country, and its annual Strawberry Festival is a delight for anybody who loves this delicious fruit.
3. Medieval Mdina Festival
Witness scenes from Medieval times and various reenactments, eat at the Medieval tavern, and enjoy the shows and displays. Across two days, the streets and squares of Mdina are transformed into living history.
4. International Fireworks Festival
Enjoy an abundant display from several Maltese and foreign fireworks factories. The competition presents spectacular pyrotechnic displays synchronised to music.
5. Malta Arts Festival
Take the opportunity to enjoy a variety of art forms, such as theatre, dance, music and art, from an abundant itinerary of cultural, musical and artistic events across three weeks.
6. Marsovin Summer Wine Festival

Enjoy summer wine in the pleasant atmosphere of Hastings Gardens with Marsovin, one of the top producers of wine in Malta. There are also food stalls, artisan stalls and music to look forward to.
7. Delicata Classic Wine Festival
More wine to taste with Delicata, one of the top wine producers in Malta. Wine, food, music and artisan stalls in a wonderful setting all form part of this event, which is held in Malta and Gozo.
8. Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival

Time for poetry and music under the stars in the wonderful setting of the Msida Bastion Historic Garden, in Floriana.
9. Qala International Folk Festival
Experience local tradition during this weekend of folk dance, music and traditional food, which comes alive in the quaint village square of Qala. You will meet the locals and the festival attracts also many visitors.
10. Malta International Airshow
Marvel at aircraft and aeorbatics at the Malta International Airshow, a spectacle not to be missed.
11. Notte Bianca
Expect open museums and churches, street performers, gigs, art displays, food stalls and drinks and much during Notte Bianca in the Valletta, which keeps the capital city awake and vibrant through the night.
12. Mdina Grand Prix
Experience this amazing classic car race set in the idyllic countryside beneath the imposing bastions of the Old Capital City. A variety of cultural activities precedes the races.
Wander from reenactments to museums and churches, take a peek inside grand Birgu homes, taste food and drink, look at artisan stalls and check out the film festival. Birgu by Candlelight, on Saturday, lends the fortified city a Medieval atmosphere.
14. Festival Mediterranea
Discover all that Gozo may boast of during this festival. Gozo’s equivalent to the Malta Arts Festival, an abundant itinerary of cultural, musical and artistic events spans several weeks.
15. Malta Military Tattoo
Your opportunity to explore the extraordinary entertainment by hundreds of musicians from many bands in marching routines, military ability and artistic demonstrations.
Events in Malta are wide and varied, so if there is something you enjoy particularly, just ask the locals.
